Thank you everyone for participating in our 2nd Annual Micro-Finance Business Ideas competition this summer!

We received several micro finance business ideas and have selected the two winning ideas.

The following ideas stood out to us as the most viable and potentially beneficial micro finance business concepts.

1) Art E-Commerce (Submitted by Tyler Nagel)

An e-commerce website where local artists can sell their works to customers worldwide.

Key Benefits

  • Low capital requirements
  • Low technical expertise required after initiation
  • Low operation cost
  • Long term viability through an external ecommerce solution provider
  • Leverages existing infrastructure through Canada Post
  • Scalable to handle as much art as local artists can provide

2) Market Garden (submitted by Jeff Wright of Old Country Seeds)

www.oldcountryseeds.ca

Growing, eating, and preserving fresh produce within the Hesquiat Community.

Key Benefits

  • Low capital requirements
  • Gives the community a measure of self-sufficiency and a little less to worry about if they are cut off from the Vancouver Island for a time, due to weather, water taxi down, etc.
  • It might also provide some economic spin-offs with vacationing boaters coming to buy fresh produce, etc.

Thank-you again for your contributions!
